Latasha WIllis-simpson is the founder of Kennedy's kisses, a brand that promotes healthy natural hair and natural products. she is also a stylist specializing in protective styles such as: Goddess Faux Locs, Marley Twists, & Box braids.

LWS: I'm a wife, mother, daughter, sister, natural hair enthusiast, goof ball, vegan and health nut. Kennedy's Kisses offers 8 oz Shea butters mixed with essential oils that are great for skin and promoting hair growth.  Other than offering cute and comfortable protective styles that will not require a Tylenol or Advil after services, Kennedy's Kisses also offers African print cloth diapers and/or diaper covers for those who are interested in saving money on disposable diaper purchases. Vegan meals are also offered (upon request) while being serviced.

What is your earliest memory being involved in your business?

I used to style close friends and family's hair when I was in high school.  When I was a kid, I really enjoyed styling my Barbie's hair and designing new clothes for them out of my socks. My husband encouraged me to pick back up on styling hair and selling Shea butter.

What about this lane makes you so passionate about it?

It feels good knowing that I'm offering a service that is protecting/growing my clients' natural hair all while using natural hair products.  The part when my client looks in the mirror and smiles super big and says, "I love it," gives me the most fulfillment. I think we all know the feeling when you go somewhere and good money and time was wasted on a style that didn't turn out the way we imagined. That feeling sucks. So, I try my best to meet their needs as best as I can.

Us women take pride in our appearances. So, when a client inquires about my product or a specific hair style and they get exactly what they were looking for, it makes them feel good, it makes them feel beautiful. It also gives them peace of mind knowing that all natural products are being used and sold. I also love the fact that my clients and I are able to bond, joke, encourage and uplift one another while I’m styling their hair. It seriously feels like I’ve gained another sistah from another mistah’ after finishing up.

What did your journey to where you are currently look like?

10 years ago I would've never pictured myself in this position. My journey has been rewarding. If there was no such thing as process, I wouldn't have learned half of the things I know now and wouldn't have built the endurance I need to work a full time job and successfully run my own business.

Can you name a highlight of your career?

Every weekend is a highlight when I can successfully install a 12-13 hour hair style in half the time and then go work my second job.

Anything you’d go back and change?

Yeah, my prices.

If you're great at what you do, don't dumb down your prices to build clientele.

Kennedy's Kisses Shea Butter is sold at Shadez of Us Beauty Supply and on Etsy.com
