Off the Beaten Lens

There are those images you scroll by on social media everyday, absentmindedly, without much attention given - and then there are these. Vivid, colorful pictures with standout backgrounds, great juxtaposition and flair. No way you can keep them to yourself, you've got to share these with others, right?

John Ficenec and Tia Maria came together to make magic in this shoot with wicked style and perfect angles.

Because, you gotta get those angles.

John was given his first 'camera' in the 5th grade, bought by his grandmother from Toys 'r' Us. He started taking it to school, filming his friends jumping off of the playground slides. It's safe to say that may have been the best gift ever. Thanks grandma.

"I'm highly inspired by the aesthetic choices of musicians I admire: Frank Ocean, Harry Styles, Missy Elliot and her music videos, etc. When I do a shoot, I like doing absolutely bonkers shit that make no sense. That's my goal in photography, to show my audience things they have never seen before." - @johnficenec

Tia Maria, a quirky girl from Omaha, Ne, is far from your average in all her uniqueness. Starting off with modeling back in 2014, her first shoot with Pierre Kenal landed her a magazine cover on Midwest Black Hair magazine. With modeling being so natural, she knew she had to keep going. Mused by Rihanna, every woman's fashion crush, and ASAP Rocky, her go to for male fashion - Tia likes to be unpredictable, keeping people guessing what she might wear next. She has many muses including Brittany Byrd, Siobhan Bell and Bella McFadden. "They are all so dope and their styles give me life. I usually call it 'Lazy Street Wear'."

Working in retail for 8 years, Tia absolutely loves clothing. "There is something about putting on a dope outfit that boosts your confidence." People recognizing her at her old job, Forever21, would ask to be styled which allowed her to creative and sharpen her own fashion style. From that, TheOffBeatRedHead was born.

My blog is more for people who want to become more confident in trying out different styles. I don’t have a set style. I’m totally fine with variety. Others may not be as open-minded about something like that. This is where theoffbeatredhead.com become useful to those people ready to take that next fashion step. People usually feel more comfortable with doing new things when they see others doing it too.

Tia has big plans for TheOffBeatRedHead, wanting to branch outside of the blog itself. Without giving too much away, she says plans will definitely include eyewear!  Modeling will continue to be a part of her brand as well as taking on creative director positions for fashion photoshoots. No matter what she does in the future, she promises it will be dope !
